Booth Chadwick and Porter
Booth Chadwick and Porter operated from offices in Manchester and Colwyn Bay. They were principally architects to Colwyn Bay & Pwllycrochan Estate Company, formed in 1875 of which Lawrence Booth was also a member. Lawrence Booth was later joined by Thomas Chadwick in Manchester and by J. M. Porter in Colwyn Bay. The partnership was continued under the same name by Thomas Chadwick and John Merry Porter following the death of Lawrence Booth in 1894 and became one of the leading architectural practices in the Colwyn Bay area.
In 1905,the partnership was dissolved with John Merry Porter remaining in Colwyn Bay. It became Porter and Hunter 1905-1907, until Charles Ernest Elcock was taken into partnership. When Elcock left in 1912, the firm became J. M. Porter and Company, and kept this name until it was dissolved in 1973. The records of J. M. Porter and Co. reflect the development of Colwyn Bay, from a rural village to thriving seaside resort, the company being involved in the design and alteration of many of its buildings, and, as estate agents, managing properties for sale and rent.
