Maxwell Tuke and Hurst
At Southport James Maxwell and William Charles Tuke were joined in partnership by Samuel Hurst about 1876. This partnership appears to have been conducted entirely independently from their main business in Manchester and was an arrangement similar to that established by Edward Potts about the same time. Both were intended to offer promising young architects and potential future partners the opportunity to gain experience. Maxwell Tuke and Hurst dissolved the partnership on 13 June 1885; it had specialised almost exclusively in Nonconformist chapels and schools.
