The son of Robert Hutchinson and Alice Fell, George Fell was born at Windermere in the summer of 1848 and christened on 3 September 1840.  By 1871 he was living in Hulme Manchester, styling himself architect, although probably employed as an architectural assistant. About 1875 he commenced independent practice as an architect and surveyor, with offices at 37 Spring Gardens, Manchester.

George Fell died on 30 November 1902 at his residence 43 Steven Street, Stretford, survived by his widow Sarah Jane. He was interred at Stretford Cemetery on 3 December 1902.
