George Ellis
George Ellis was born in Manchester. Like Thomas Groom Barker, he was a pupil, assistant, and afterwards a partner of Edward Walters, the architect of the Free Trade Hall, Manchester. In the 1850s he assisted in making the drawings for the Free Trade Hall, Williams Deacon’s Bank, and many large warehouse buildings for which Edward Walters was the architect and in 1865 he and Thomas Groom Barker took over the practice.
George Ellis died on 2 September 1890 at Stephen Terrace, Douglas, Isle of Man. He never married but appears to have lived with his brother and sister and their respective families for most of his adult life.
