In 1874 Clifton Wilkinson Whittenbury had joined George Oliver Bird in partnership under the style of Bird & Whittenbury  and was the sole representative of the firm after Bird’s death in 1878. (RIBA Directory). About 1886 he entered into a new partnership with Henry Austin Mather under the style Whittenbury and Mather. Details of this partnership are unclear but it appears to have ended about 1895 when entries in the directories revert to the original name of Bird and Whittenbury. Clifton Wilkinson Whittenbury died on 30 July 1896 at his residence, Meadehurst, Glebelands Road, Prestwich.
