Hattrell and Wortley
Following the death of his father in 1925, Walter Stanley Hattrell took over the practice, soon to be joined in partnership with Percy Sheppard Wortley. The 1926/7 Coventry Directory contained the first entry for: Hattrell & Wortley, Architects, 1 Queens Road, Coventry, and the same entry re-appeared in subsequent editions up to and including the 1937/8 edition. P S Wortley joined the practice before the First World War. In the account books for 1925-6, both P.S. Wortley and J Cranston are listed as employees of the practice. Although the entries in the directories show the firm being a partnership, it was not until 1930 that Percy Wortley became an equity partner. The 1932 -3 accounts show his first share of profits - 5% up to £1000 and 10% thereafter. P.S. Wortley became a Licentiate of the RIBA in 1925 and retired in 1942. From 1938 the partnership was renamed W S Hattrell and Partners
