COVENTRY - W S Hattrell and Partners, Queen’s-road are architects for golf clubhouse for Coventry Golf Club, Finham Park, at £8,000. [Builder 9 December 1938 Page 1142]

The inaugural meeting of the Coventry Golf Club was held at the Drapers Hall on 18th April 1887, with the with a 9 hole course laid out on Whitley Common. On 9th May 1912 a new course and clubhouse were formally opened at Finham Park. A fire at the clubhouse in 1938, lead to its rebuilding from designs by W S Hattrell and Partners and work seems to have been completed before the outbreak of war at a cost of approximately £8,000. By the 1970’s this clubhouse was increasingly becoming inadequate. Construction of a new bypass had resulted in some land being lost and compensation received.  Alteration to the course ensued with two new holes laid out on the other side of the river, while the opportunity was also taken to provide new facilities. An advantageous site for a new clubhouse was chosen with magnificent views of the course and surrounding countryside. This was officially opened by Henry Longhurst, CBE, on 17th May 1972.
