A short-lived partnership between Henry Edwin Bown and his brother Arthur which commenced in 1877 based on newspaper reports. Henry Edwin Bown died, aged 36, in 1881, Arthur Bown becoming sole proprietor of the firm.  He continued to practice on his own account until his retirement by 1911.

The continued involvement of his son, Harold Linley Bown and his nephew, Percival Bown (1873-1953) in the firm is not fully clear. Both trained as architects, Percival serving his articles with H E and A Bown (ie Arthur Bown). He remained as assistant until 1897 before setting up on his own account in Harrogate. Elected FRIBA in 1906, he moved to the Channel Islands after World War 1. Harold Linley Bown remained in Harrogate, being elected Licentiate of the RIBA in 1935
