Henry Edwin Bown, the elder son of Edwin Bown, of Harrogate, was born in Halifax on 25 March 1845 but spent most of his short life in Harrogate. He was articled to Richard Dyson, architect, of Harrogate and was elected Associate of the RIBA in 1868.
