Whitehaven Railway Station
RAILWAY STATION, WHITEHAVEN.—This building, which has just been commenced for the Furness and the London and North-Western Railway Companies, will be from the designs of Messrs. Paley and Austin, of Lancaster. On plan it will be triangular; the base, facing the town, 90 feet long, and the sides 200 and 180 respectively; each will have a glass-roofed platform on ornamental iron columns. The companies will occupy separate sides of the station. The main entrance will open into the waiting room, 70 feet long and 45 feet wide. On the ground floor will be booking offices, station master's and porters' rooms, refreshment rooms, waiting rooms, first and second-class male and female waiting rooms, etc. On the second floor will be the Board-room, first-class waiting and ante- rooms. Messrs Hunter & Son, of Liverpool, are the contractors. [The Architect 26 July 1873 page 47]
