On Saturday afternoon three memorial stones of a new Wesleyan chapel were laid in the village of Prestwich by Mrs Isaac Hoyle, Mr James Sinclair and Mrs D B Armstrong. .... The erection of the chapel forms part of a scheme for the expansion of the Gravel Lane circuit projected about two years ago. Already a chapel has been built and opened at Rainsough; the school at Higher Broughton has also been enlarged and six vestries attached, and it is also proposed eventually to erect a new chapel at Higher Broughton at a cost of £8,000. The total cost of carrying the project so successfully started into effect will be £15,000. The new chapel at Prestwich will stand on the site of the old one. It will seat 870 persons - 500 on the ground floor and the remainder in a light elegant gallery on three sides of the building. The architect is Mr C O Ellison of Liverpool and the contract has been let to Mr A Bleakley of Birkenhead. The cost is estimated at £4,500. [Manchester Guardian 3 July 1876 page 6]
