MR HARRY PERCIVAL, the well-known architect of the Cambridge, has prepared plans and received orders to rebuild the St James's Hall, now called the Tivoli, Liverpool and the Park Palace in the same town for Kiernan's Palaces Company, Limited. [The Era 18 December 1897 page 19]

James Kiernan had previously set about converting the theatre in Lime Street on a grand scale. The Tivoli Palace of Varieties opened on 2 March 1896. On the Bill for the opening night was Marie Lloyd, engaged at considerable expense. The Park Palace was built in 1893, as a purpose-built suburban Music Hall, designed by J. H. Havelock-Sutton. The decision to rebuild these theatres at considerable cost is, therefore, surprising and no evidence has been found that these schemes were progressed. Kiernan's Palaces Company, Limited was declared bankrupt in 1900 {Manchester Courier 29 August 1900 page 8]
