“The Cotton Portico,” Palace of Industry, British Empire Exhibition, Wembley
THE EMPIRE EXHIBITION – To assist in making the (cotton industry) display as attractive and effective as possible, Mr Herbert Worthington, architect, has laid out the cotton section in as ingenious manner. Instead of the usual large halls that one associates with big exhibitions, he has designed a series of galleries or small halls, which will be decorated in a uniform style. Inside these halls individual firms will show their products in their own particular way. In addition there will be a kinema hall in which the whole range of cotton manufacturing, from the production of the raw material to the printing and bleaching of the finished product will be shown. This is being provided jointly be the Fine Spinners’ Association, the Calico printers’ Association, and the Bleachers’ Association. [Manchester Guardian 17 September 1923 page 11]
