St Anne’s (RC) Church was sited on Junction Street (now Carruthers Street) close to the corner with Every Street and was dedicated on 4 June 1848. Early English style. Nave, one aisle, chancel, porch and vestry. Cost £1,500. Seating for 7-800. The church was demolished about 1876 and replaced by a new church to the designs of Gordon Parry and Partners, opened in 1978. According to the classified advertisement announcing opening services, the church was to have been dedicated to St Ann.
