On Saturday afternoon Mr. J. K. Cross, Liberal member for Bolton, laid the corner stone of new schools in connection with Mawdsley-street Independent Chapel in that borough. The old schools had been purchased by the Corporation for the purpose of widening Old Acres. The new buildings are being erected on land adjacent to the former site, and will consist of day school on ground floor, to accommodate 240 children; Sunday school on first floor for 500 children; infant school for 60, and lecture-hall for 120 persons. Mr. Thomas Haselden is the architect, and the total estimated cost is £3,200. [Liverpool Daily Post - Monday 26 April 1875 page 5]
