Railway Inn, Chester Road, Helsby.
The Railway Inn was a small house, and the accommodation was entirely inadequate for the requirements of the neighbourhood, which had largely increased owing to the erection of the telegraph wire works of Messrs. Taylor. It was proposed to make important structural alterations of the premises, and build a modern hotel upon the site of the inn and an adjoining confectioners' shop. The house, which was on the main road from Chester to Warrington and near the Helsby Railway Station, was the property of Messrs. Greenall, Whitley, who also owned another public-house in the village called the Robin Hood.
It was proposed to take down the present building altogether. It was wholly inadequate, and they proposed to build a modern inn with all modern improvements, partly on the site of the present inn and partly on the site of the shop next door, belonging to the owners of the inn, Messrs. Greenall, Whitley. … Mr. Segar Owen, architect, of Warrington, described the building proposed to be erected. The cost, he said, would be between £1,970 and £2,000.
