Proposed Pavilion Lytham Pier

LYTHAM PIER PAVILION. PROPOSED NEW PAVILION, DESIGNED BY ALD. A. ENGLAND - The above photograph shows the New Pavilion which the directors of the Lytham Pier propose to erect to replace the structure which was destroyed by fire some months ago. The pavilion will be a handsome structure built at the shore end of the Pier. In order to provide for its erection it will be necessary to widen the existing structure—an improvement which will add very materially to the appearance of the Pier and bring it into conformity with modern structures and ideas.  It is confidently expected that by building the new pavilion at the shore end of the Pier it will serve a useful purpose all the year round, ensuring that those who use the building will be able to attend without suffering from the strong winds of winter.  The pavilion will be 80ft. by 51 feet, with a steel and zinc semi-circular roof. The building will be of steel with a cement stucco exterior. There will be an interior corridor and a small balcony at the rear. The seating accommodation is for 800, and the raked floor ensures a clear view of the stage from every part of the building. The proscenium has a width of 30ft., and there are ante-rooms for the stage. At the entrance there are cloakrooms and lavatories on both floors. There will be six exits, so that the building can be emptied very quickly. It is interesting to note that the stage is so commodious as to allow of rear projection for pictures as well as the usual frontal projection. It is also sufficiently extensive as to be admirably adapted for the presentation of stage plays. Provision is made for a system of central heating, and there will be efficient ventilation and lighting.
