Proposed Cinema and Theatre: Waterloo Road South Shore Blackpool
Plans for a proposed 2200 seat capacity super-cinema with ballroom, cafe and full-sized stage were announced in 1936 but seemingly abandoned. The shareholder’s report a year later, in December 1937, referred only to the Palladium and Waterloo cinemas, both in Waterloo Road, South Shore with no mention of proposals for any new cinemas (KW)
BLACKPOOL’S £100,000 BUILDING - KINEMA AND THEATRE IN ONE - The intention of South Shore Theatres Limited, owners of the Palladium and Waterloo kinemas to build a new super was announced to shareholders at the annual meeting on December 10. The site is that of the former Jubilee Garage near the junction of Waterloo Road and Lytham Road, South Shore. It is understood that the plans prepared by Halstead Best, the Blackpool architect, will be submitted to the corporation immediately and application for the necessary licences made early in the New Year.The building would be designed to serve the dual purpose of a kinema and a theatre or music hall, with a large stage and ten dressing rooms. The expenditure will be in the vicinity of £100,000.
