The site selected for the church was next to the public baths, and was bounded by Muriel Street, Moss Street and Great Clowes Street; a Baptist school room of 1883 was at the rear of the site. The foundation stone of new chapel was laid by Dr McLaren on Tuesday 26 July 1898. Chapel demolished. The new building was to have sitting accommodation for 530 persons who would take sittings apart from the free accommodation. The building was to be of red Ruabon bricks and terra cotta dressing, and the gradient from the back of the chapel towards the pulpit would be such that those sitting at the back would be able to see as well as those at the front. It was hoped that the electric light would be utilised. The main building would cost about £2,500.

The new Baptist Church in Great Clowes Street, Broughton, was opened for public worship yesterday. The church has been erected, along with lecture room and vestries, close to the existing school-room, the cost of the work having been over £3,000. The building is Gothic in character, and the interior of the church presents a light and airy appearance. The sitting accommodation to be provided is 600. The foundation stone was laid in July of last year by the Rev Dr McLaren, and the work has been completed by Messrs J Gerrard and Sons of Swinton, from the plans of Mr A W Smith.
