In January 1874 a committee was formed to plan a new building to replace the existing chapel and C. O. Ellison, was instructed to prepare the plans. The building contract was awarded to Gibson and Son. Mr. Samuel Rigby laid the foundation stone on 5th April 1874. The present church opened on 5th April 1875

NEW WESLEYAN CHAPEL, PADGATE - The foundation stone of this chapel was laid last week. The building will be faced with Yorkshire shoddies, with dressings and bands of red stone, the roof being covered with bands of blue and green slates. In the end gable will be a three-light window, with a traceried head, the side next the road having single pointed windows, and a. rustic porch of pitch pine. At the east end of the chapel there will be a chancel, with stained-glass window, and at one side of the chancel an archway opening into the schoolroom, which will be filled in with a rich screen of pitch pine and glass, arranged to be thrown open in case of necessity. The ceiling will be waggon-headed. Mr. C. O. Ellison, of Liverpool, is the architect; the builders are Messrs. Gibson, of Warrington. [The Architect 9 May 1874 page 272]

PADGATE.—The foundation-stone of a new Wesleyan Chapel was laid at Padgate on Thursday week. The cost, including site, is £1,500. The style will be Gothic. The building will be faced with Yorkshire shoddies, with dressings and bands of red stone, the roof being covered with bands of blue and green slates, finished with an ornamental red cresting. The interior of the chapel will be laid out to seat about 200 people, and there is in addition a schoolroom about 30ft. by 18ft., and a vestry. The architect is Mr. C. O. Ellison, of Liverpool, and the builders Messrs. Gibson, of Warrington. [Building News 8 May 1874 page 515]
