The burial board have awarded the first premium of 20 guineas to Mr James Stevens of Manchester for the best plans and designs for laying out the cemetery and the second premium of 10 guineas to Messrs Firth and Booth of Macclesfield. The board were of the opinion that the plans of Mr Brindley of London, Messrs Underwood and Billings of Clifton, neat Bristol and Mr Campbell of London possessed great merit, but that the estimates of the two former were high.
