In 1895 Macclesfield Council agreed to purchase the old Technical School buildings and the following year the plans of James Stevens for new premises were approved. The school occupied a prominent position in Park Green near the Girls High School and was fitted up for instruction in weaving, design, wood-carving etc. The cost was between  £8,000-£9,000. PROPOSED TECHNICAL SCHOOL FOR MACCLESFIELD — The Macclesfield Town Council have adopted the minutes of the Technical Instruction Committee, sanctioning the erection of a new Technical school on the site of the Useful Knowledge Society’s premises on Park Green, which have been bought for £2,000. The total cost will be about £7,000. Mr. James Stevens, of Manchester and Macclesfield, is the architect.  [Builder 19 February 1898 page 189]

 

THE NEW TECHNICAL SCHOOL AT MACCLESFIELD – The new Technical School at Macclesfield which has been erected by the Macclesfield Corporation on Park Green, adjoining the Free Library and School of Art and Science is to be opened at the end of March. It was at first proposed that the member for the division, Mr Bromley Davenport MP should be asked to perform the ceremony but he has volunteered for service in South Africa where he arrived on Wednesday last. …  The architect of the new school is Mr James Stevens of Manchester and Macclesfield, and the builders Messrs E and A Frith, Macclesfield.
