LIVERPOOL TRAMWAY OFFICES: FIRST PREMIATED DESIGN - This design, submitted by Messrs Stones and Stones, architects, of Liverpool and Blackburn, was awarded the first premium in a recent open competition in accordance with the report of Sir William Emerson, past President of the Royal Institute of British Architects, the professional assessor appointed by the Liverpool City Council. The requirements of the corporation have changed since the competition was instituted, and consequently the scheme will not be carried out as at first intended. Messrs. Stones and Stones ask us to mention that Mr. Edwardes Sproat, of Glasgow, was associated with them as joint architect in preparing the competition design submitted for tramway offices, etc, at Liverpool.  [Building News 6 November 1903 page 638]
