Provisional committee included George Buck Esq CE, Greenheys, near Manchester, director of the Manchester Southampton and Poole Railway. The proposed line was to run from Lancaster, to Kirby Lonsdale, Sedburgh, Kirby Stephen and thence by the most direct route to Newcastle.
