NEW CONSERVATIVE CLUB FOR ARDWICK - The buildings erected for the use of the Ardwick Conservative Club at the corner of Higher Ardwick and Union Street are now finished, and the club only awaits the completion of the furnishings etc. to enter into its handsome and commodious new premises. The elevations of the buildings are composed of stock and ornamental bricks, relieved in a judicious manner with stone and granite dressings. On the ground floor there is a billiard-room for four tables, 46 feet 9 inches long by 40 feet wide, with gymnasium, committee, smoking and card rooms, and hall porter=s room. The principal portion of the first floor is occupied by a large concert and lecture hall, 54 feet by 46 feet 9 inches to which are attached suitable retiring rooms, with a staircase leading to the rear entrance of the club . There is also upon this floor a reading room, 22 feet by 16 feet 6 inches, and a small card room. About ,3,000 was the estimate for the building, exclusive of furnishings and decoration. Messrs Foreman and Todd of Lower Broughton are the contractors and the designs accepted by the Building Committee were those of Messrs Slater and Kendal, Police Street. Arrangements are being made for a ceremonious opening of the club on the 31st inst, when it is expected that Sir William Hart Dyke, the Conservative “whip” will be present.
