Henshaw’s Blind Asylum (Architectural Competition)
67th Annual Report of the board of Management of Henshaw’s Blind Asylum. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, said the board of management had been much engaged with the Haysleigh undertaking, on which they feared they would have to spend no Jess sum that £40,000 in order to bring the work in every respect to the level of that of the best blind institutions in the country. The assessor who had adjudicated on the thirty plans submitted had awarded the first prize of £100 to Messrs. C. K. and T. C. Mayor, the second of £50 to Mr. Henry Lord, the third of £25 to Mr. G. H. Wllloughby, and had commended the plans sent in by Mr. Theodore Sington. The board, however, with its knowledge of the special requirements of the institution, had come to the conclusion that the plans best suited to their needs were those of Messrs. Mangnal and Littiewood. At the same time the board was sorry it could not fall in with the views and judgment of the assessor. [Manchester Courier 20 February 1907 page 10].
