NEW CATHOLIC CHURCH. The Bishop of Salford (Dr T Henshaw) laid the foundation stone of a new Roman Catholic Church in the parish of St Willibrord, Clayton, Manchester, on Saturday. It will cost £14,00 and seat 700 people. It is greatly needed, as at present services have to be conducted in a room over the school. The new church, or which the architects are Mr E Bower Norris and Mr F M Reynolds, will be in the Byzantine style, having three large domes over the nave. The exterior walls will be of sand-faced brick with stone dressings. [Manchester Guardian 4 October 1937 page 11]
