The new church, of brick in a “Renaissance” style was built at a cost of £4,000 in the grounds of an old house, which became the Presbytery. The baptistery is contained within the north porch of the narthex and the gallery staircase in the south porch. A spacious sanctuary at the east end terminates with a square apse, arched over. Brick,. The foundation stone was to have been laid by Dr Thomas Henshaw, Bishop of Salford. However, he died suddenly the day before the stone laying ceremony and the task was actually performed by Canon H V Marshall. The new Church was opened by Father Mortimer Daly in 1938 with Christmas Midnight Mass.

This church replaced the original “tin church,” built in 1926 in Yew Tree Road, close to Manchester City’s football ground at Maine Road. Although the church itself was small, it stood in extensive grounds which were turned into a car park on match days. The 6d a time charged for parking over ten years is said to have contributed significantly towards the cost of the new building.
