ST PETER’S CHURCH, FARNWORTH. This church of which the foundation stone was laid in July last year by the Countess of Bradford, was consecrated yesterday afternoon by the Bishop of Manchester. The new church is a chapel of ease to the parish church of St John, Farnworth. It stands close to the present mission church, and is, like the mission church, built on land given for the purpose by the Earl of Bradford. It is of brick, and is both internally and externally, a very plain building. Inclusive of 36 seats in the chancel for the choir, and 100 in the gallery at the west end of the church, there are 636 sittings. The whole of the sittings are to be “free and unappropriated for ever.” An expenditure of £3,800 has been incurred in the erection of the building. [Manchester Guardian 21 September 1886 page 8]
