WESLEYAN SCHOOLS AT PENDLETON - This design was submitted in competition, and was prepared in accordance with instructions to the competitors. It shows a great central hall or assembly room, galleried on three sides, and capable of seating 600 scholars, for whom also twenty class-rooms are provided. Cloak rooms and lavatories. etc., near boys' and girls' entrances. are also provided. A library is also shown in a convenient position near these entrances. The rostrum is placed at the opposite end of the hall, a raised dais being formed to contain it. An infant school for 150 is placed endwise at the back of the hall. with cloak room, etc. Tea room, with sink. cupboard, and boiler, is shown above the heating chamber in boys’ playground. A corridor communicating with the old lecture hall, chapel. etc.. is shown in a convenient position, and the whole ground floor is of the same level as the lecture hall, etc, [British Architect 3 July 1885 page 6]
