Harry Marshall Fairhurst, the son of Philip Garland Fairhurst joined Fairhursts in 1949. In 1976 he was awarded an honorary degree from the University of Manchester for his work at the University and UMIST and in 1981 he retired from the practice, the last member of the Fairhurst family.
