Born in 1858, Edgar Samuel Titmas was the son of Samuel Titmas, railway advertising agent for W H Smith & Son and his wife Ellen, he was briefly in partnership with John Weymouth Hurrell. This ended on 24 June 1881 and after an interval of about two years he entered into partnership with John Harris Andrews.  This partnership was dissolved by mutual consent on 18 March 1887, and is the last record yet found for Edgar Samuel Titmas.

In 1885 he married Jessie Mathieson Brown. She is included in the census returns of 1901 and 1911 as being widowed and living in Leicester.
