NEW WESLEYAN SCHOOLS, NEWTON HEATH - .... The building is to be constructed of brick in the Gothic style. The principal room will be on the ground floor, and will be divided by a partition into schools for boys and girls, there being, in the whole, accommodation for 400 children. In addition there will be classrooms above with accommodation for another 200. The site for the building is behind the chapel. Messrs Blackwell and Sons are the architects and Mr Nathaniel Robinson the builder. [Manchester Guardian 7 April 1860 page 4]

NEW WESLEYAN SCHOOLS, NEWTON HEATH – The foundation stone of a new Wesleyan school at Newton Heath was laid yesterday by Mr Eli Aitkin on which occasion he was presented with a very handsome silver trowel for the purpose. … The schools about to be erected are from the designs of Messrs M Blackwell and Son and will accommodate 400 children in the principal room and 200 in the classrooms. The foundation stone was laid on 6 April 1860 by Eli Atkin of Newton Vale Cottage.
