NEW WESLEYAN SCHOOLS, BLACKLEY - New schools have been built for the Wesleyans at Blackley, adjoining and communicating with the present chapel. The building comprises, on the ground floor a mixed school 55 feet by 39 feet, connected with which are five spacious classrooms; also an infants' school 32 feet by 21 feet. Each school has a separate hat and cloak room and playground.  The rooms have open-framed roofs and are lofty and well-lighted. The building has been erected by Mr R Whitell of Barnes Green at an outlay of about £1,900, under the superintendence of the architect, Mr John Lowe of this city. BLACKLEY - New Wesleyan schools at Blackley, Manchester, have lately been opened. The schools adjoin and communicate with the chapel. The buildings comprise, on the ground-floor, a mixed school, 55 feet by 39 feet; connected with same are five spacious class-rooms, also an infants' school, 32 feet by 2 I feet. Each school has a separate hat and cloak room and playground. The rooms have dados of Staffordshire glazed bricks, and the class-rooms pitch pine boarding; all have open-framed roofs, and are lofty and exceedingly well lighted. Externally, the building is faced with white headers, relieved with bands of coloured bricks, and masonry. The roofs are slated, with enriched cresting. The schools are warmed by means of hot-water apparatus, and the class-rooms by open fireplaces. The building has been erected by Mr. R. Whitell, of Barnes Green, at an outlay of about £1,900, under the superintendence of the architect, Mr. John Lowe, F.R.I.B.A., Manchester. [The Architect 4 February 1878 page 78]
