HARPURHEY—The memorial-stones of new Wesleyan Methodist Sunday Schools in connection with the chapel at Harpurhey were laid on Saturday. The schools will be of red Ruabon brick with stone dressings, in the Renaissance style, from the designs of Mr. J. Gibbons Sankey, of Manchester. They will contain a large hall with about 12 classrooms, a lecture-room to seat 300, a junior school with room for 200 scholars, an infant schoolroom for 180, besides a large schoolroom with accommodation for some 800. WESLEYAN SCHOOLS, HARPURHEY - On the 20th inst., four memorial stones of the new Wesleyan Schools, Harpurhey, Lancashire, were laid. The building, which has been designed by Mr. J. Gibbons Sankey, architect, of Manchester, will be in the English Renaissance style, the front being of brick and Ruabon terra-cotta. The large school-room will seat about 800 people, the lecture room 300, the junior school 200, and the infant school 180. The total cost of the building will be £3,000. THE NEW WESLEYAN SCHOOLS HARPURHEY, LAYING OF THE MEMORIAL STONES – On Saturday afternoon four memorial stones connection new Wesleyan School being erected at Beech Mount, Harpurhey. … The new structure is from the design of Mr J Sankey BA, 8 York-street City and is to be built in the style of the English Renaissance with a quiet, comfortable, and convenient treatment The building will be of two storeys will have its main front Beech Mount. The upper storey will consist of a large meeting hall with some twelve classrooms adjoining or opening into it and with superintendents’ room and library attached. The lower storey will of a lecture room to accommodate 300 persons a junior school to accommodate 250 scholars and an infants’ school to seat 190 children. The interior woodwork will be mainly in varnished pitch pine, but the lecture room will be finished in stained and polished canary wood which will have an appearance similar to walnut wood. Red Ruabon bricks are being used in the front of the exterior and the various architectural features will be modelled in buff Ruabon terra-cotta Every room in the building is provided with ventilation appliances of the most recent type. Judging from the plans of the building the trustees feel confident of possessing, when completed, one of most convenient and best equipped schools in the connexion.
