A NEW WESLEYAN CHURCH AT SALCOMBE - The new church, an imposing building overlooking the river, is Gothic in style, is cruciform plan, the choir being placed in the chancel. On either side are the organ chamber and the choir vestry. There is seating accommodation for about 500. The interior presents an exceedingly tasteful appearance, the interior fittings, pews, etc., being pitch pine, while the buff-coloured walls are relieved with white, and the windows, of semi-translucent glass, are glazed with leaded lights and ornamented with conventional motifs in colour. The roof is of fibrous plaster, suitably ornamented. Owing to the sloping nature of the site, the Sunday-schools are placed beneath the church, and comprise primary, intermediate, and senior classrooms, 'line building is constructed of brick, with Bath stone dressings, and Delabole green slate has been used for the roof. Heating is by means the low-pressure hot water system. Mrs. B. Beale, of Tavistock, formally opened the building yesterday morning and was presented with a golden key, suitably inscribed, as memento of the occasion, by Mr. A. Brocklehurst, of Manchester, the architect.[Western Morning News 10 April 1928 page 5]
