PLYMOUTH GROVE WESLEYAN CHAPEL MANCHESTER. -It will afford much interest to the Wesleyan community and the public generally to hear that this beautiful edifice will shortly be dedicated. The proportions of nave, chancel, transepts, and tower have been gradually developing for many months. The general verdict is that the architect (Mr Waddington) has been successful in the method of treatment and that architecturally the scheme is satisfactory. The building externally and internally has many points of interest. Although the interior contains a stately arcade of arches and pillars, they do not prevent every worshipper having a view of the preacher. The organ chamber and choir stalls are in the chancel, which stands elevated several feet above the nave. The pulpit and font are of Alcaster stone, enriched with carving and with panels and shafts of alabaster and marble. The plan of the chancel also included a stone arcade or reredos, the erection of which is postponed, with the hope that it may be given. A beautiful window has been erected in the south transept through the kindness of Miss Napier and Mrs Gamble, in memory of their father, Mr John Napier. It is hoped that the church may soon be enriched by further gifts. The windows are specially adapted for painted glass. The form of the memorial to Mr Turnbull, who bequeathed the legacy from which the chapel and premises have been built, has yet to be decided. If sufficient funds are forthcoming, a painted window for the chancel is to be provided. [Manchester Courier 30 September 1893 Page 3]
