HARPURHEY NEW WESLEYAN CHAPEL - The memorial stones of a new Wesleyan Chapel in Harpurhey were laid on Saturday afternoon in the presence of a large number of spectators. ... the new building would accommodate 850 persons and the total cost, exclusive of the land, would be about ,4,000. ..... The new chapel, which it is expected will be opened by April next, will be in the Renaissance style of architecture. The pews will be of pitch pine, and there will be a vestry, chapel keeper’s room, large band room 29 feet long, to seat 100 persons and two spacious classrooms on the gallery floor level. At the higher angle of the building a tower rising to a height of 80 feet is to be erected in which will be placed extraction coils and shafts to assist the ventilation. The heating will be by means of hot water on the low pressure principle. The architects are Messrs William Waddington and Son of Cross Street, and the contractor is Mr James Macfarlane of Churnett Street, Manchester. [Manchester Guardian 2 July 1883 page 6]
