In a competition for a new Wesleyan Chapel at Berry Brow near Huddersfield, the design submitted by Mr J H Burton of Ashton-under-Lyne has been selected for execution. There were twelve competitors. The cost of the new chapel which is to accommodate 500 persons is estimated at £2000 exclusive of the value of the materials in the existing structure. [British Architect. 13 June 1884 Page 288 ]

TO BUILDERS - Persons desirous of tendering for any of the separate trades required in the erection of a CHAPEL at Berry Brow, near Huddersfield, may send their names and addresses to Mr J H Burton, architect and surveyor, Warrington street, Ashton-under-Lyne. FOUR MEMORIAL STONES OF A NEW CHAPEL, erecting for the Methodist New Connexion body at Berry Brow, Huddersfield, on the site of the old chapel, were laid on Saturday. ….  The new building will provide accommodation for 80 or 90 scholars, and a preaching room for 110 persons. The upper storey will be the chapel, to accommodate 600 persons. The architect is Mr. J. H. Burton, Ashton-under-Lyne. The amount of the contract is about £2,700.
