Warehouse for Jabez Waterhouse Church Street Ashton-under-Lyne
This warehouse has just been completed for J Waterhouse Esq. It is built of local bricks, stone being very sparingly used. The great desideratum in the elevation was light, owing to the narrowness and depth of the site, and in this respect a satisfactory result has been obtained. [British Architect 3 August 1877 Page 5]
The British Architect last Saturday contains an etching of the new warehouse in Church-street, Ashton-under-Lyne, built for Mr Jabez Waterhouse, according to the plans of Mr J. H. Burton, architect, who was formerly in the engineer’s office in this town. The building is very handsome and commodious structure. A local paper— The Reporter —laments that the building does not stand in some principal thoroughfare.[Halifax Courier 11 August 1877 page 4]
