TWO DESIGNS, made for the Unitarian
Chapel, Upper Brook-street. By T W ATKINSON
Architect, Store-street, Manchester
T W Atkinson produced two designs for a proposed Unitarian Chapel in Upper Brook Street although whether at the request of the Building Committee is unclear. Prints were published of the two schemes and advertised for sale in the Manchester Guardian over a period of several weeks
A lithograph survives in Manchester Central Reference Library for an ornate Gothic chapel which seems to have been based on Kings College Chapel Cambridge. This was submitted to the Chapel Building Committee with an estimated cost of £4,500 but was rejected in favour of the design by Charles Barry.
A lithograph for Atkinson’s second design in a Greek Revival style exists in the RIBA Library.
