Three Shops and Warehouse Oldham Street/Hilton Street
The surgery and adjoining property formerly used by Dr Walsh at the angle of Oldham-street and Hilton-street have recently been taken down for the purpose of erecting three shops and a warehouse. Messrs Speakman and Son are the architects and the builders Messrs R Neill & Sons. Two of the shops will have their frontages to Oldham-street and one to Hilton-street. The building will be three stories high, built in the semi-Gothic style and will have dormer windows in the roof. The facade will be of modern and ornamental construction, composed principally of iron-cement and stone dressings. Light will be economised for the basement (which will be suitable for a restaurant) by means of white glazed brickwork, a scheme which will do away with the necessity of paint or whitewash. The building in of the foundations have just been finished and the superstructure is being proceeded with.
