With lifts, escalators, and every comfort and advantage for the shopper that can be devised. Tie main facades will be faced with Portland stone, and the windows will be designed to afford the utmost use of natural light for the benefit of shoppers in selecting coloured goods. The construction of a tunnel is contemplated to link the two buildings. old and new. The architects are Messrs. Gray, Evans and Crossley, North John Street, and, in the early stages of the project, Mr. W. E. Vernon Crompton, FRIBA acted as consultant. The contractors for the first portion of the work, now being undertaken are William Thornton and Sons Ltd. [Liverpool Daily Post - Thursday 8 November 1934 page 6]
