LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE OF A NEW CHURCH SCHOOL AT MOSSLEY - On Saturday afternoon the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of a new branch Church of England Sunday school took place at Mossley Brow in the presence of a large concourse of spectators. The proceedings were conducted by the Vicar, the Rev Thomas W Farthing MA. The school is intended to be 80 feet by 40 feet on the ground plan, and of two storeys, the upper one of which will afford accommodation for about 400 scholars in one room, whilst the lower storey is to be utilised for class-rooms and preparations for tea meetings. The architects are Messrs John Eaton and Sons of Ashton-under-Lyne; and the contractors for the building are Mr Edward Marland, masons’ work, etc; and Mr John Pickford for the joiners’ work and remaining portions. The total cost of the building will be about £1,600. The whole of the land on which the school will be erected has been given by the Earl of Stamford and Warrington.
