The designs and plans of Messrs Austin and Paley, architects, Lancaster, have been approved by the Vicar and parishioners of St Stephens-on-the-Cliffs for the erection of a new church which, when completed, is estimated to cost £35,000. [Builder 28 November 1924 page 878]

CHURCH ON THE CLIFFS - An appeal to raise £14.000. the approximate cost of building the first part the new St. Stephen’s Church on the Cliffs. North Shore, Blackpool, made by the vicar, the Rev. P. B. Freshwater. The complete church is to cost £35,000. The Church Council have accepted the design of Messrs Austin and Paley, church architects, of Lancaster. TENDERS WANTED. TO BUILDERS. ST. STEPHEN ON THE CLIFFS, BLACKPOOL. Contractors desirous submitting TENDERS for the whole of the works required for the above may see the plans, etc., at the Office of the Architects from Thursday, June 4th. Bills of Quantities may be obtained on application to Messrs. Wright & Son, Surveyors, Lancaster. Tenders are delivered (under cover) the Architects not later than Noon, Thursday, June 18th. NEW BLACKPOOL CHURCH. FOUNDATION STONE LAID BY BISHOP OF MANCHESTER. The foundation stone of the new church of St. Stephen-on-the-Cliffs, North Shore, Blackpool, was laid by the Bishop of Manchester (Dr. Temple), on Saturday afternoon.  The church, a description of which has already been given in the Lancashire Daily Post, has been found necessary owing to the increasing population of the parish. The eventual cost of the church, which is being built to the design of Messrs. Austin and Paley, of Lancaster, together with the land, will be about £35,000. but it is only intended to proceed with the first part of the building at present. This will entail an expenditure of £16,000, and £12,000 is still required. [Lancashire Evening Post 27 July 1925 page 6]
