St Mary's Hospital, Quay Street. Manchester
OPENING OF ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL - A large company of ladies and gentlemen assembled in the lecture hall of the new building in Quay Street yesterday morning, to celebrate the opening of the institution. The building, which has been erected from the plans of Mr N G Pennington, architect, is, in its elevation to Quay Street, Italian in design. It was fully described in the Guardian, in September 1855, when the foundation stone was laid. An addition has been made to the original design, which will afford room for 20 more beds than were at first contemplated; and, exclusive of the apartments of the officers and nurses, there is now sufficient bed accommodation for between 80 and 90 patients.
