Building work commenced March 9th 1864, Certificate of Completion given to Mr Neill May 3rd 1865. Consecrated November 30th 1865. Is built in the Early English style of brick with white and black bands and stone dressings. Has nave and aisles, also clerestory five bays long; the clerestory is supported by cast iron pillars, bearing white brick moulded arches. The roof is open. Nave 65'-7" long; total width inside 52'-9". Chancel 19'-2"long 27'-0" wide.. Vestry with heating chamber underneath. West porch, North porch. Windows coupled with trefoil heads. East window three lights with hood mould. West window two light Early Geometric. Roof principals with cross braces, wind braces and ironwork. Church heated by Haden & Sons hot air apparatus. Gas lighting by Thomason & Co.

The church was demolished in 1974, following Declaration of Redundancy. Combined with St Marks Gorton in a new church on the site of St Marks, this being Emmanuel Church by W S Hattrell & Partners, 1973-5.
