MANCHESTER - The foundation stone of St Luke’s National Schools was laid last week by the rector of the parish. The building will be of the Italian style of architecture, three stories high, and comprise boys’ girls’ and infants’; with classrooms etc. The principal rooms are 60 feet by 22 feet internally; and the schools are faced externally with red bricks with alternate courses of blue and moulded bricks to the windows, angles etc. The roof is open with framed principals etc. Attached to the schools is the master’s residence. The total cost will be about £2,000 exclusive of the site, given by the patron. The works are being carried out by Mr J Bramall, builder, under the direction of Mr J Lowe, architect, both of Manchester. [Builder 21 September 1861 Page 651]
