HOLMFIRTH. Laying the Foundation Stone of a New Church. —The service, procession, and public meeting, in celebration of laying the foundation stone of the new church about to be erected Holmfirth, took place on Thursday se’nnight. After a procession to the site, the foundation stone was laid by the Rev. T. G. Fearne, the incumbent, to whom a beautiful silver trowel was presented bearing the following inscription:—"This trowel was given by Mrs James Charlesworth to the building committee of the Parish Church of Upper Thong, entitled St. John's Church, and presented by them to Thomas Gleadow Fearne, M.A., incumbent, on the occasion his laying the foundation stone of that church, Nov. 12, 1846. James Charlesworth, chairman; Edwin Hugh Shellard, architect; J. Thorpe and Co., and J. Moorhouse and Co., builders."
