The memorial ‑stone of the new St. Alphonsus Church and Schools in connection with St. Wilfrid's, Hulme, will be laid by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Salford to‑morrow (Saturday). The memorial stone of the new presbytery will be laid at the same time. The cost of the church, house, and schools will be £6,000, and the total cost of the extensions at St. Wilfrid's, with the new buildings, will be £7,200. [Building News 25 September 1903 page 430] 

NEW CATHOLIC CHURCH AT BROOKS’S BAR – The Bishop pf Salford’s first public episcopal function since his ordination took place on Saturday when about 3,000 assembled to witness the laying of the foundation stone of St Alphonsus’s Church, Brooks’s Bar. The site of the new church and grounds, an acre and a half in extent, have been given by Sir Humphrey de Trafford, and the edifice will cost over £6,000.
